Psychological Therapy
How can we help?
Our registered psychologists are trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Interpersonal Therapy. Our team can support individuals of all ages to process, manage and cope with a number of mental health challenges below (click on the links to find out more):
Maybe you are unsure if your experiences fit with any of these issues and that’s ok because we work with you, not your diagnosis! It’s true that sometime having a diagnosis can be useful, but the whether there is one or not, the outcome that we are after is the same - to help you feel better.
If we are not the best people to help, we will do our best to make sure we connect you with someone who can help.
How can therapy help?
Talk therapy has been demonstrated to be effective in treating and managing psychological concerns and mental health.
Therapy can provide an opportunity to confidentially discuss our concerns with a trained professional, in an environment that is free from judgement. People can benefit from having an opportunity to learn new skills, process past experiences, and understand how these experiences have shaped them. When we understand how unhelpful patterns of behaviour continue to impact our lies, we can commit to making adaptive changes and regain control.
It is important that you are part of the treatment planning process, and that is why we work with you to identify your needs and design the therapeutic interventions to assist you to reach your goals of therapy.
What can I expect from my first session?
If you have never seen a psychologist before, or even if you have and it didn’t go as you expected, it is understandable and normal to feel anxious or even apprehensive about your first session!
You are welcome to share as much or as little in the first session, and it is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist as a number of studies suggest that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the most important predictor of success in therapy. At the end of your first session, you should understand how the sessions will look moving forward, and agree on a treatment plan that you are comfortable with, with your psychologist. Before your first session, we ask that you complete our intake, and consent form so that we can understand a bit about what has brought you to therapy.
